If you’re taking a sick day today and have absolutely nothing to keep your mind occupied with, please please please head over to the Red Bull Music Academy site and watch the producer lectures. You’ll be there all day.
RBMA hosted a lecture/talk by Plasticman (pre-name change era) back in 2004 in Rome, and it’s fascinating.
And if you know me, you know I love Grime– and Plasticman is more than capable of talking about it, especially since this was taped in 2004 (4 years into the genre’s inception, more-or-less).
Plasticman delves into:
- 4×4 Garage
- 2-step Garage
- Grime MCs
- Pulse X
The RBMA lectures are cool because they treat these producers with a real supreme level of importance, especially within the wider context of music, at the moment (if that makes sense)
I mean, to be interviewing Plasticman in 2004 (almost 10 years ago) about the importance of grime music (specifically instrumental grime), while it was relatively new, is pretty groundbreaking if you ask me.
So if you have an hour and a half to spare, definitely check this out, because if you love grime, this is required viewing.
